An Introduction to CVS Pharmacy
CVS Pharmacy, or CVS, has over 9,500 stores in 49 states in the US. Retail positions featured by the pharmacy include beauty consultant, cashier, pharmacy technician, and shift supervisor trainee. As a retail employee, you will play a pivotal role in creating a positive in-store atmosphere. The goal is to develop long-lasting customer relationships by providing friendly customer service and supporting merchandising activities.
Entry-level Jobs for 16-year-olds
Teens can work at CVS who are at least 16 years old. CVS hires teens for such entry-level positions as cashier, beauty care associate, or sales associate. Because of the young hiring age, entry-level applicants do not need to possess a high school diploma to be considered for employment. While possessing a GED equivalency or high school education may assist prospective employees in the hiring process, it does not bear any real influence on an entry-level candidate’s acceptance for employment.
Entry-level Job Descriptions
What Cashiers Do
Cashiers at the retail chain perform front-end duties, such as processing transactions, greeting customers, cleaning works stations, and restocking point-of-sale (POS) shelves.
Responsibilities of Sales Associates
CVS sales associates work on the general floor, helping customers with their purchases or organizing shelves.
Beauty Care Associates
Beauty care associates manage service responsibilities in their assignment departments. While a general knowledge of cosmetics and other beauty care products is helpful, a lack of these qualifications will not bar a candidate from getting a job.
Entry Level Pay
The beginning salary for entry level employees begins at $9.00/hour.
Positions Open to 18- and 19-year-old Job Candidates
However, that being said, you will find more success in obtaining employment at CVS if you are an older teen, or 18 or 19 years old. Opportunities are offered full or part-time. For example, older ten candidates often apply for the following positions:
Shift Supervisor
This job entails customer service skills, employee supervision, merchandising, and cash handling activities.
Pharmacy Sales Associate
The pharmacy associate rings out prescriptions, answers the phone, and handles pharmacist referrals.
Beauty 360 Consultant
A Beauty 360 consultant handles customer service responsibilities, merchandising, and commission sales. A high school diploma or GED is required, plus a minimum of two years related retail management experience.
Photo Lab Associate
The photo lab associate is responsible for serving photo customers with their photo finishing needs. Cash handling and general equipment maintenance are part of the responsibilities.
In-Store Customer Service Representative
The in-store customer service representative handles such customer service tasks as answering customer questions, cash management, merchandising, product returns and exchanges, light maintenance, and other tasks specific to the position.
CVS Intern
A CVS intern is a student that is involved in the CVS Caremark program. CVS Caremark offers internship opportunities in corporate locations as well as retail stores and pharmacies.
Applying for a Job at CVS
Begin by Searching Online at the CVS Website
In order to apply for a job at CVS, search for jobs online at the CVS website. When you find a job that you feel is a good match, click on the “Apply Now” link. Complete the application in full and include all prior work experience. Some positions require that you complete a virtual employment tryout. Once your application is completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.
What Happens after You Submit Your Application
After the submittal of your application, CVS recruiters review applications, and short-list candidates. If you are selected, you will next hear from a CVS recruiter. If you are not selected, you will receive a notification by e-mail. The correspondence will encourage you to search and apply for future job openings. Because of the volume of applications CVS receives, some of the applications do not get reviewed.
The Interview Process
If you are selected for an interview, the recruiter will arrange a video interview or phone screen. If selected for the next phase, you will be invited for a follow-up in-person interview or video interview with a hiring manager.
After You Are Hired
Should you be selected for a job, you will be extended a job offer. After you accept the offer, a background check and drug testing are initiated.
CVS Benefits
CVS employees are offered a number of benefits, including competitive pay for performance, and medical, dental, prescription, and vision coverage. Employees may also select and utilize MinuteClinic wellness at no cost. This added benefit offers comprehensive health screenings, personalized smoking cessation programs, and yearly flu shots.
Other benefits include 401(k), an employee stock purchase program, and long- and short-term disability insurance. Employees also receive paid time off, an employee discount program, and educational assistance.
